Waited a long time for an update, not long enough

I've had a Marantz for 10 years and have finally given up trying to bypass the missing HDMI in/out on my stereo. I bought this after some serious research and was particularly impressed with the pass-through mode. UPDATE: The device failed after just 15 months. The "protection system" is out of order and the receiver is not working. Despite the fact that the warranty is 2 years, not everything is smooth. "Part" is 3 months old order. If I hadn't complained about it, he would still be on the…

Good receiver for the price

This Sony receiver has a very nice look. It's solidly built and works well. It has good step-by-step instructions and if you follow them, it's easy to set up. Wireless works great, bluetooth is good and airplay is awesome. I was ecstatic when I turned on the iTouch music, selected the Airplay icon and my music started streaming out of the speakers connected to the receiver. I was able to control the volume of the entire system right from my iTouch. :) If you have a lot of components that you…

Excellent performance and low quality.

This receiver has many good features for the price, but it's not built to last. All my previous receivers had no problems with a lifespan of 5-10 years. Much more. This one barely lasted 4. The front display died about 3 months ago. It still works, somehow. I lose my HDMI connections. It only shows video but no audio. The other one is buggy and I'm sure it will lose sound soon. Even when it was new I had terrible HDMI handshake issues with almost all of my sources. Worst of all was another Sony

Sony STR-DN840 7.2 Receiver

I bought this receiver because it was CNet's most popular product and also because I've had very good luck with Sony products. I have a very basic home system but later wanted to add more devices. This product definitely fits. They helped me install the system because I can't strip the wires to save my life and the wires needed to go through the walls/floor :-). However, I found the receiver connections were well marked, the instructions were clear and easy to set up as described. Some settings

There are nuts! - Receiver and amplifier

I love this receiver! I'm honestly not a music lover, but this receiver has everything I was looking for to satisfy my home theater needs. Before purchasing this product I did extensive research on my home theater upgrade options and I found great reviews from places like Crutchfield and CNET reviews and I am very happy with this receiver. It has more HDMI inputs (7) than any other receiver in this price range, which is great for me considering all the equipment I have (3 game consoles…

So far so good - Receiver

This receiver does what it promises and offers good value for money. It was easy to install and I found the fit and finish, connector quality etc to be typical of mid-range receivers. The remote control is also average (e.g. no lights, no glow-in-the-dark buttons, etc.). One anti-feature I find quite annoying is that it turns itself off if the audio stream stops for a few seconds. Protocol. I don't have four ways to beat this or change the timeout, but I haven't checked either. This babysitting

Great receiver for home entertainment!

I haven't bought an AV receiver since 2005 and this receiver had all the features that will keep it relevant for at least the next 6-8 years. The receiver meets and exceeds most home entertainment needs. Basic requirements: At least 4 HDMI inputs (this one has 6) 4K pass-through (this receiver is compatible) 6.1 or more surround sound (this receiver supports 7.2) 3D support (this receiver is compatible) Optional additional features: Bluetooth and AirPlay I'm not an audiophile, but I was looking

Great recipient! Flawless performance with Bravia TV

This receiver is great. I use it in combination with a 55" Bravia TV, five Polk Audio speakers, a Polk Audio subwoofer and a Samsung Blu-ray player. His remote control can control all TV settings but not the Blu-ray player. This receiver and TV work as one set, with one button to turn on, off, adjust volume, etc. The playback function only works for audio, which is a shame. I wish I could play YouTube videos, iPhone photos and iPod videos while doing it. However, it works great with audio and…

This thing has excellent qualities

Replaces Harman Kardon AVR 335, which seemed very good to me. This Sony STR-DN840 is amazing. I replaced it to get HDMI connections. Don't really expect a noticeable improvement in sound quality. I use the same Harman Kardon surround speakers with a Velodyne MicroVee subwoofer. That Sony is putting out 150 watts to the speaker versus 75 watts to the HK receiver is clearer and sounds incredible. Now I can actually hear dialogue when watching TV and movies, whereas before I had to choose the best

Pros

  • Without insurance
