Review on 🚜 TOMY John Deere Big Farm Semi: 1:16 Scale Low Boy Wide Load Trailer by Jack Herrera

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Massive thrill - my new review

Pros: Huge, impressive. Has lights. Great detail. Feels high quality (though plastic)Cons: Horn is extremely loud, operable steering system challenges smaller kids. Large size may be a bit big for some play areas.First off, this truck is huge, at over 48 inches long. It is so big in fact, it really fills the room to the point "driving" it around is a pretty short affair. As with the real thing, the turning radius is enormous. The doors open, the trailer detaches and the low boy operation is somewhat modeled. The neck of the lowboy is held on by a plastic tab, as well as a rotating "key" that is really only accessible if the lowboy is picked up. The entire neck operation might be a bit much for smaller kids, but they can just pick up whatever is on it and lift it off.The deck also has pull out extensions to increase the width. These are fairly easy to pull out. Overall, very nice. To give an idea of size, Green Toy vehicles (the standard large scale series, such as the bus or the dump trucks) are a near perfect width, and you can put one or two of them on the lowboy. The Bruder Cat Excavator, and other 1/16th scale vehicles are also generally a good fit. The only issue is the raised center area of the deck; if the wheels of the carried vehicle don't clear it, it won't fit very well. There are a couple of issues however:The lowboy does drag over some bumps and carpet transitions. It has lights and sounds. The sounds are really, really loud. We removed the 4 screws on the bottom, plus 1 more at the exhaust pipe to access the speaker, then stuffed paper towels to dampen the speaker which brought the volume down to a nice and quiet level. The head lights are nice and bright however, which made the kids happy. The steering wheel turns the front wheels. This may be a great thing for some kids, however, for smaller kids its a bit of a challenge to push the truck with the steering swerving all over. We centered the front wheels and then applied hot glue to the steering level to lock the steering. Its much easier for smaller kids to push around now.

Pros
  • My Grandsons love it!
Cons
  • Not suitable for outdoor play in extreme weather conditions
